Sam Smith's debut album just did something that hasn't been done in over 50 years.

It's been one year since Sam Smith released his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, and what it accomplished in those 365 days is definitely worth a cake smash.

Not only is the album a Grammy winner, its also the only album since the Beatles' Pleas Please Me album to spend nearly its entire first year in the top 5 of the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart. The Beatles released that album in 1963.

In the Lonely Hour spent 50 weeks in the top 5, while Please Please Me spent 51 weeks at one of the coveted top spots. This is even more amazing given how people interact with music these days. Purchasing entire albums is pretty much archaic.

I guess the hour isn't so lonely after all.
