The December 26 induction of Fox sports announcer Tim Brando is the first in five years for the Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars.

Walk of Stars President John Lieberman told KEEL News the feature in the Red River District began in 1997 as a committee under the Greater Chamber of Commerce.

"We continued under the Chamber's umbrella through 2008, and then the Chamber said, 'Hey, we've got a limited amount of dollars, and we really need to put these dollars into other things.' And we understood," Lieberman said. "The Walk kind of floundered around for about three years, and then in 2011, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau stepped up to the plate."

That's the year the Bureau offered to oversee the induction of country music artist Robert Mizzell, but the Walk went idle again after that.

Lieberman said it was earlier this year that the folks who started all this decided to bring the Walk back to life.

"We set about the process of becoming a totally independent organization, and I'm happy to say that has now taken place," said Lieberman. "We're registered with the State of Louisiana as a non-profit corporation, and we've been determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization."

He said the selection of Fox Sports announcer Tim Brando was one that was long overdue, and there was a long list of candidates to choose from. It just so happened that Brando was already planning to be in Shreveport this month -- as the Grand Marshal of the Camping World Independence Bowl Parade.

Brando's induction takes place at 11 a.m. Monday, December 26, in the Red River District in Shreveport. He'll join the many other famous locals who have graced the pavement with their hand- and footprints, like Kix Brooks, Terry Bradshaw and Bill Joyce.

Lieberman said the Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars website is still under construction, but you can check out all the latest news from the organization on its Facebook page.
