Paris Jackson Blasts White Supremacists During Speech at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards [WATCH]
Paris Jackson walked onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards stage to announce the winner for Best Pop Video award at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, but added some political commentary before she moved on to the reveal.
The daughter of late pop megastar Michael Jackson, Paris blasted hate and discrimination while making a plea for unity. Musing at what everyone watching could accomplish if they came together, Paris used the moment to criticize those stoking racism in the U.S.
"I hope we leave here tonight remembering that we must show these Nazi, white supremacist jerks in Charlottesville and all over the country that as a nation with liberty as our slogan we have zero tolerance for their violence, hatred, and their discrimination,” said Jackson, adding: “We must resist.”
The sentiment was one of several that touched on the tensions around the country--mostly coming as pointed not-so-subtle barbs at aimed Donald Trump. But Paris made one of the night's more explicit statements.
