Post Malone’s “Rockstar” Tops Billboard Hot 100 for Eight Straight Weeks
While fans continue to wait for Post Malone's next studio album, the Syracuse, N.Y. rapper continues to find success on the Billboard Hot 100.
For the eighth straight week, Malone's 21 Savage-assisted song, "Rockstar," has topped the Hot 100 chart. The song also maintains its top spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs for an eighth week.
"Rockstar" also becomes the longest-running No. 1 song to have "rock" in its title, beating Joan Jett & the Blackheart's rock 'n' roll classic, "I Love Rock & Roll."
In related Post Malone news, according to the rapper, his upcoming album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, was supposed to release on Dec. 1, but his record label had different plans. In late November, Republic Records confirmed to XXL that the album didn't have a release date.
Unfortunately for some fans, they didn't get the memo and were still expecting the project on Dec. 1. After the date came and went without Beerbongs & Bentleys, Post apologized to his fans, tweeting, "Hey guys, i know a lot of you guys were expecting a project today, it won't be dropping for a little while. I'm sorry to let you down, but i need to make sure this album is perfect for you. I'm gonna keep working my ass off and make the best fucking album ever. i love ya."
Post also recently found himself in hot water with hip-hop fans for his controversial comments about the genre. "If you're looking to cry, if you're looking to think about life, don't listen to hip-hop," he said during a recent interview.
The rapper eventually fired back at critics questioning his love for hip-hop, saying, "My next hip-hop album is fucking hip-hop. I love hip-hop. I make hip-hop. I wanna take this genre and stretch it so far that people who may not listen to it, listen to it, and wanna listen to the new artists and whatever's going on."
Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg has taken aim at Post Malone, telling him, "So, either leave hip-hop and go make music in another genre, or start showing respect for hip-hop."
