President Donald Trump has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Louisiana, opening up for federal funding to be made available for portions of the state hit the hardest by Hurricane Delta.

The declaration opens the way for federal aid to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the hurricane.

Federal funding will be made available to affected individuals in the parishes of Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis, and Vermilion.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Funding is also available to local and state governments along with certain nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures in the declared parishes.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated parishes can apply for assistance by registering online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 am to 10 pm seven days a week until further notice.
