UPDATE: The American Red Cross is Ready to Sound the Alarm in Shreveport
UPDATE: The Louisiana Red Cross has updated the dates that they will be 'ringing the alarm' in Shreveport. The new dates for Shreveport are May 6th, 7th, 14th, and 18th.
After the global 'pause' we all experienced due to the pandemic, the American Red Cross is ready to 'sound the alarm' again in Shreveport.
Shreveport is one of 50 signature cities nationwide included in the American Red Cross’ goal to install 50,000 free smoke alarms with partners across the country.
The Red Cross with the help of local community partners and volunteers will hit the streets in Shreveport on
Thursday, May 5, 2022, with the express purpose of going door to door to install free smoke alarms and help provide home fire safety education. The stop in Shreveport is a part of a month-long campaign that will take the Red Cross to Hammond, Alexandria, Monroe, and Bastrop, LA as well as Shreveport.
Karen McCoy, Executive Director of the Louisiana Red Cross North Louisiana Chapter says, “We’re beyond excited to host Sound the Alarm again in north Louisiana. Working smoke alarms can give someone precious time to escape from a burning home. We know this work has saved lives and will continue to do so, and so we invite everyone to join us in this fulfilling mission to make our neighborhoods safer.”
If you'd like to volunteer your time, McCoy says, “We have something for anyone who wants to volunteer with the Red Cross. No matter your skills or experience, I’m confident we have a role for you.” Folks interested in volunteering can sign up here. Don't have the time to volunteer, but want to help? We hope you'll consider making a donation to help the Red Cross continue to offer this service to residents in need free of charge. To donate, click here.
