New Orleans Saints fans suspected it was bad, and now they know. Saints Quarterback Drew Brees has torn ligaments in his thumb, and will require surgery, according to NFL insiders.

That 6 week timetable will be impacted by who does the surgery, and when Brees has it performed. Which means it could be more than 6 weeks, depending on the scheduling and the procedure itself. Additionally, Brees' age may hinder the recovery time.

Right now, the team will look to backup Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who the Saints made the highest paid backup in the league this off-season. Bridgewater is a former First Round Draft Pick, who won the NFL Rookie of the Year Award in 2014, and made the Pro Bowl in 2015. He has a career passer rating of 85.5, with 6,433 career yards and 29 passing touchdowns.

The 27-year-old Bridgewater reportedly turned down the starting quarterback job in Miami this off season to stay in New Orleans.
