Rhymefest Calls Out Kanye West for Abandoning Chicago Youth, Asks Drake for Help
On Saturday (May 26), Rhymefest went on Twitter to air out West for not supporting Donda’s House, a non-profit organization, named after West’s late mother Dr. Donda West, that educates Chicago students through music and the arts.
"[Drake] when G.O.O.D. Music sends the money they owe you, will you please help us rebuild Kanye’s mothers house for the youth of Chicago. I spoke to Kanye about it. His response was 'fuck the youth of Chicago,'" he tweeted in reference to Drizzy sending an fictional $100,000 invoice to Pusha T and Kanye West for "promotional assistance and career reviving."
"I’m asking @Drake to help the part of Chicago Kanye has Abandoned! Please contact @DondasHouse," he added. "I’ll take the Heat because I know who & what I’m dealing with! I also have Proof! What do you do when your brother turns into [Darth Vader]."
Rhymefest, who penned West's Grammy-winning song "Jesus Walks," also went on his Instagram page asking for donations from his followers to help maintain Donda's House.
He wrote, in part, "Our mission @dondashouse is to further the Legacy & Mission of Dr. Donda West by supporting young artist & communities. As a human & Consumer you have a choice. I ask that instead of buying Pusha T’s Album you donate to dondashouseinc.org so we can finish rebuilding her Chicago home and create more artistic safe spaces. Thank you."
If this is true, then this is another bad look for 'Ye who has already angered people with his pro-Trump tweets and TMZ Live interview where he said that "slavery was a choice" for Black people.
On the flip side, folks on Twitter appear to be upset with Rhymefest for airing out Yeezy's dirty laundry on social media. They feel he should have called West personally on the phone instead of jumping into the rap feud between Drake and Pusha T to ask for donations.
Some people also feel that Rhymefest should have reached out to fellow Chicago rappers Chance the Rapper and Common for donations instead of Drake who is not from the Windy City.
It's a very tangled web, but we empathized with Rhymefest who is dedicated to helping the youth in Chicago. Check out the reactions below.
