Let the barrel races begin in Bossier Parish! Sure, we're all getting used to the fact we can't get onto I-20 westbound from the racetrack/I-220, but that's not the only headache for drivers in Bossier Parish. Here are a few of the other projects that you can expect to slow you down over the next month or so.

First, Wednesday, August 5, just east of Benton Road to the Airline Drive overpass on I-220, you can expect the outside lane on I-220 west to be closed from 8:30 am - 3:30. This means the westbound on-ramp to I-220 from Benton Road will be closed. This is all weather permitting, but I don't see any rain in the forecast.

Moving on, let's talk about Airline Drive north of the Bossier City city limits. Work started yesterday on an overlay project on Airline Drive from Linton Road south. Right now, crews are working on the middle turning lane resulting in only one lane of traffic each direction for roughly two weeks.

Swan Lake Road is the next area of concern with two locations being worked on simultaneously. The first project is replacing the bridge over Flat River about a mile and half east of Airline Drive. That work is scheduled to last roughly six months. The section between Airline Drive and Legacy Elementary School will remain open.

The next section of Swan Lake Road to be concerned with is in the area where it intersects I-220. Contractors are working to widen the lanes and the entrance and exit ramps to I-220 will be intermittently closed over the next 30 days as the project is expected to be completed in phases. Officials say the will stagger lane closings to accommodate traffic and say they'll have plenty of signage in case of detours. The project is scheduled to take place over the next 100 days or so, once again, weather permitting.

Lastly, road crews will begin work to replace the bridge crossing Foxskin Bayou on Johnson Koran Road on August 17th.

Hopefully, this gets you up to date on everything you need to know to skip traffic slowdowns. We'll keep you updated as we get more information. Happy barrel racing!
