A bear wandered into downtown Minden...and no, that's not the beginning of a joke.

Wildlife agents successfully captured a black bear that somehow found its way into the downtown area of Minden.

The bear was first sighted at around 9 a.m. Thursday which prompted a call to local police, who cordoned off a wooded area to keep people away. The bear then went to another wooded area, this time not far from the local police department.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries officials determined that the bear was not a threat. Agents did set a trap, however, and the bear was safely captured at around 3:40 p.m.

Agents say that they plan to measure and examine the animal, then implant a microchip in the bear before releasing it into the wild.
