It’s Gumbo Weather, Don’t Forget the 14 Rules of Southern Cooking
It's finally gumbo weather here in Louisiana! Let's hunker down with some comfort food, but don't go forgetting the 'rules' when it comes to southern cooking!
Shreveport-Bossier City has experienced a record 26 days of 100° plus temperatures this summer making 2022 one of our hottest years yet.
Thankfully, we're getting some relief from the heat and the drought right now and it's got me dreaming of a big pot of gumbo! After all, football season is upon us and it's time to gather up our friends and family and EAT!
Want to make people think you're a native of the south when they come over to eat? If you follow the rules of southern cooking, you'll be able to fool the most discerning Cajun! One of the biggest things we pride ourselves on in Louisiana is that the majority of us can throw down in the kitchen. But when company is coming over, we kick it up a notch. We don't use mixes or instant anything. That's right, we skip the microwave and make everything from scratch. With that being said, there are certain things you'll never see happen in a southern kitchen... like using anything other than cornmeal for your fish fry or setting your table without Tony's... That would be unheard of!
