Lest you think Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson collaborations limited to American Crime and Horror stories, the pair have really gone Cuckoo now. Netflix has placed a two-season order for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel Ratched, with Paulson portraying the title role.

Deadline reports that Netflix has ordered a full eighteen episodes for the new series, which will “follow Ratched’s (Paulson) journey and evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster. The series will track her murderous progression through the mental health care system” beginning in 1947. Murphy will direct the pilot episode in mid-2018, with Michael Douglas (yes, that one) executive producing a script from newcomer Evan Romansky.

Douglas and Saul Zaentz produced the original 1976 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, based on Ken Kesey’s novel, and went on to win the Best Picture Oscar that year (along with a Best Actress win for Nurse Ratched portrayer Louise Fletcher). For what it’s worth, Paulson will complete her role in the revamped Katrina: American Crime Story next year, though it remains unclear if the two-season Ratched order will leave much room for future American FX roles.

In the meantime, Paulson continues to lead Season 7’s Cult, which premiered this past week.
