Sci-Port Set to Re-Open Tomorrow
Once a downtown destination, financial woes and alleged mismanagement forced Sci-Port Discovery Center in Downtown Shreveport to close last September. Hope was once again ripped away when the Planet Aqua group announced it was going to take over the center but eventually dropped out of the deal for numerous reasons, including financial woes of their own.
However, after months of failed starts and heartbreak, Sci-Port finally has new life and is set to re-open. The children's interactive museum is schedule to fully re-open its doors tomorrow. To celebrate the big occasion, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 pm. Mayor Ollie Tyler will be in attendance to open the doors and welcome visitors.
It was announced earlier this year that a new group, Red River Stem, with the backing of the Community Foundation would be taking control of the facility and trying to breathe new life into the center. New Executive Director Diane Clark says there is still a lot of work to be done but she's excited to once again offer live demonstrations and planetarium shows .
Tickets to the center start at 12 dollars. You can find more details on the Sci-Port Facebook page or by calling the center at 318-424-3466 between 9am and 5pm.
