Several Firefighter and police units responded to a fire Sunday evening on 331 McCormick street in Highland. A call was put in about the one-story house fire at 6:35. When responders arrived on the scene they were told by a neighbor that the homeowner was still inside the house.

Firefighters gained access to the home, while the blaze was spilling out of the front and side of the residence. After searching the home firefighters located the homeowner and was able to get them out of the house. The homeowner was then transported to a local hospital to be treated.

Nine fire units and twenty-four Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control at 6:56 p.m. No injuries to any responder was reported. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Department. The home suffered heavy damage due to the fire and water.

I (KEEL's Rueben Wright) happened to be driving to Highland when I saw the road blocked by police and fire units on Gilbert. I was able to grab a couple of pictures of the police and fire presence in the neighborhood. Neighbors were out in their yards expressing concern for the homeowner and watching the firefighters work.

In the original press release from SFD the Fire Chief urged people to check their smoke detectors:

Fire Chief Scott Wolverton encourages all residents within the City of Shreveport to have at least one working smoke detector in their home.
