Shreveport Attorney Announces Run for Mayor

There's another candidate is in the race for Mayor of Shreveport. Attorney Tom Arceneaux has announced his candidacy for the city's highest office. Arceneaux will run as a Republican.

Arceneaux, who served on Shreveport City Council from 1982 to 1990, says his three major priorities are crime, blight and fiscal integrity.

Arceneaux says he his campaign has raised more than $100 thousand so far.

Vision for Shreveport

In a news release Tuesday, Arceneaux outlined what he sees as the city's biggest problems:

“As Mayor, I will work with the Shreveport Police Department to put more police officers on patrol, particularly in high crime neighborhoods. I will help SPD to develop a more hands-on relationship with people in high crime neighborhoods, while restoring appreciation for our first responders.

“Blighted neighborhoods are breeding grounds for crime. As Mayor, I will bring greater focus and resources to bear to eliminate and prevent blight, clean up our city’s streets and neighborhoods, and restore its beauty. These and other efforts can reduce flight from inner city neighborhoods to neighborhoods outside of Shreveport."

The Candidate's Background

Arceneaux is a Shreveport native and lifelong resident. He graduated from Captain Shreve High School, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and LSU Hebert Law Center. His firm, Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin & Roberts, specializes in commercial law.

The attorney is the third announced candidate in the race. Others are incumbent Mayor Adrian Perkins and another Republican, Caddo Parish Commissioner Jim Taliaferro.
