According to a survey, 74% of Americans who try to stick to a budget say that the rising cost of living is the biggest challenge to their budget. Since 2021 the average Louisiana household has added $890 to their monthly cost of living, estimating the added cost over the years since inflation began to rise at this rate the average Louisianian has paid $28,426 more than they would have before inflation spiked.

An essential key to financial stability is budgeting your income, a new study has revealed that the people of Shreveport have some work to do on their budgeting.

Shreveport Named City With The Worst Budgeters

A new study collected data from 182 cities about things like the average credit score, late payments, home prices, and average income.

Of all 182 cities in the study Shreveport was the city with the worst budgeting skills.

Shreveport had the worst rank of all cities in credit related statistics like average credit scores and delinquent payments. Shreveport had the 3rd lowest average credit scores, just behind Newark, NJ, and Detroit, MI.

Louisiana Has Poor Budget Skills

Two other cities in Louisiana were a part of the study, and neither of them did much better than Shreveport. Baton Rouge was the city with the 13th worst budgeting skills of all. The only other Louisiana city in the study was the 5th worst overall, New Orleans.

New Orleans and Baton Rouge have excuses for such poor budgeting skills, being a party city and a college football city respectively, but Shreveport doesn't have an easy excuse like the other two do.
