The man wanted by the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office over an alleged assault at a Shreveport gas station, caught on video in late May, has been taken into custody. Johnathan B. Melton was apprehended by officers on Friday night in Shreveport without a struggle. The viral video, with over 200k views on the CPSO's Facebook, helped officers identify and locate Melton.

Viral Gas Station Assault Spurs Community Search for Suspect

On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, a Hispanic man was attacked by a white man at a convenience store on Hollywood Ave. Days later, the CPSO posted the security camera footage of the incident as well as a zoomed-in image of the attacker's face, asking the public for help identifying the man.

According to CPSO, the Hispanic man, who remains anonymous, suffered facial trauma and was taken to LSU Health for treatment.

The Shreveport community came together in response to this attack, many leaving comments of support, anger, and frustration, and some even pointing to the name Johnathan Melton before the arrest was made.

Gas Station Assault Suspect Booked in Caddo, Faces No Bond

Melton was arrested on Friday, June 6th, 2025, late in the night at a store on Greenwood Road in Shreveport. According to CPSO, Melton is being held at the Caddo Correctional Center and is charged with second-degree battery. He is currently held without bond.

The announcement of Metlon's arrest led to a collective sigh of relief and mockery in the comments, clearly, the community of Shreveport was not on the attacker's side.

Until Johnathan Melton has his day in court, it is presumed all are innocent until proven guilty.
