The retail company is permanently closing the stores this summer as part of its bankruptcy filing. Stores in 20 states will be closing.

JC Penney filed for bankruptcy on May 15th. The company has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and executives made the decision that it would be too difficult to recover.

They did try to reopen hundreds of stores, but they have struggled with sluggish sales. The Shreveport store never did reopen. It has a sign on it that says "temporarily closed".

The Bossier store at Pierre Bossier Mall is not on the chopping block.

2 other stores are closing in Louisiana. One is in Lafayette and the other is in Metairie.

Here is part of the statement from JC Penney:

Following a comprehensive review of our retail footprint, JCPenney made the difficult decision to close 154 stores. We will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want.

Additional closings are expected in coming weeks. Store closing sales are set to begin on June 12th.
