35 year old Ray Davis Jr. was found guilty of his crimes back in 2016 of robbing a hotel and shooting a security guard.
John Andrew Prime, Public Information Officer of the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office released this statement today:
"Shreveport man guilty of robbery, aggravated battery
A Shreveport man was found guilty of armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery following a bench trial in Caddo District Court Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
District Judge Charles Tutt found Dennis Ray Davis Jr., 35, of Shreveport, guilty as charged of armed robbery and guilty responsively of aggravated battery.
The crimes for which Davis was found guilty occurred July 29, 2016. Davis entered the Baymont Inn Hotel on Monkhouse Drive, pulled out a handgun and fired a round into the ceiling while demanding money. An unarmed security guard attempted to intervene but Davis shot the security guard once in the knee. After being shot, the security guard fled out the front door of the hotel. Davis then forced the front desk clerk to open the cash drawer. He then took the entire cash drawer and its contents, $220. The front desk clerk identified Davis as the person who robbed and shot the security guard from a six-person lineup. The security guard also identified Davis based on prior contact, as Davis had rented rooms at the same hotel prior to the robbery.
When Davis returns to face Judge Tutt for sentencing January 21, 2020, he faces up to 10 years, with or without hard labor, for the aggravated battery conviction, and 10 to 99 years at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence for the armed robbery conviction. An additional five years at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence will be added to and run consecutively with the armed robbery sentence due to the use of a firearm in connection with the robbery.
Davis's prior convictions include possession of a Schedule II narcotic, 2003; simple battery, 2004; two DWIs in 2014, a subsequent DWI in 2016; misdemeanor theft, 2016; and DWI, fourth or subsequent offense, 2017.
Davis represented himself with Michael Enright as stand-by counsel. He was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kodie K. Smith."
