Meta is underway with building $10 billion worth of data centers in Louisiana, and that could be big news for the state. At the rate things are going, next thing you know, Shreveport could be a major tech hub, and maybe it should be.

Meta In Louisiana Could Fight Brain Drain

Shreveport and much of Louisiana have had a big brain drain problem for years. Simply put, when people from the area graduate from school and look for work, they look elsewhere. Usually, people go to other places because the jobs pay better in other places, or Shreveport doesn't have that job.

Shreveport could see a massive slowdown in brain drain if well-paying job opportunities in computer science appeared in the city, following the construction of new data centers.

Meta is building data centers for their artificial intelligence, Meta AI, in Richardson Parish and bringing 500 jobs to the area once everything is completed. Other companies have also shown interest in bringing their AI data centers to Louisiana.

Shreveport shouldn't be left out of any of these companies. Already, the city is seeing buildings that had been empty bought out by 50 Cent to be revitalized. With plenty of empty buildings waiting to be moved into, Shreveport could be a great pick for any artificial intelligence company to open an office.

Once AI data centers become more common, Shreveport has a chance to spark a new job revolution focused on getting locals hired and hopefully putting an end to the city's brain drain.

Meet the Ancient Computer System Running Louisiana's OMV

The computer database used by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles has been there for decades and still uses decades-old technology called COBOL. Meet some of the original computers that ran the same systems back in the day, some of which might even still be in use somewhere at a Louisiana OMV.
