Shreveport Police Arrest 65-Year-Old Man For Shooting Officer

Shreveport Police have arrested 65-year-old William Torrans for shooting a police officer.

The shooting happened at the SpringRidge Apartments on West Bert Kouns just before noon on Monday, April 6th. Shreveport Police officers were responding to a call of shots fired at the apartment complex. Authorities were told a male resident at the apartment complex had fired a shot at a grounds crew after he had become upset with them.

After multiple officers arrived on the scene, police went to the residence of Torrans, where they say he opened fire with a handgun. Shreveport Police say that Corporal Robert Brice was hit by Torrans' gunfire. The shot his Brice in the side of his body, narrowly missing his ballistic vest, according to Shreveport Police Corporal Marcus Hines.

After Brice was removed from the scene and rushed to the hospital, Shreveport Police continued their attempt to apprehend Torrans. Multiple agencies came to assist their efforts, including the Louisiana State Police, US Marshals, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's office, Bossier City Police, and more.

Police took four hours to attempt to convince Torrans to leave his apartment, they then entered the residence by force, and took Torrans into custody. He was then transported to the hospital for treatment of wounds sustained during the arrest.

Torrans now faces a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
