Shreveport Swelters in Unstoppable Mid-Spring Heatwave
The National Weather Service of Shreveport is warning that temperatures could rise to record-breaking levels just as the weather was slowly starting to warm up in Shreveport. This current heatwave making its way through the South could mean the last few weeks of Spring weather have nearly triple-digit temps.
With temperatures still climbing, officials at the NWS are urging Shreveport residents to stay safe in the heat.
Heatwave Rolls Through Shreveport and the South
A blast of warm air is making its way through the South and up into the Midwest, leaving Shreveport drenched in sweat as it passes through. This current heatwave has been getting close to smashing a couple of record high temperatures for this time of year.
Shreveport's highest recorded temp for May 15th was 98 degrees F, set back in 1875. This year, 2025, forecasts for the same date estimate highs of 95 degrees, just shy of the record. It's the same story in Mornoe, where the 1915 record of 95 degrees could be rivaled by projected highs of 93 degrees.
Hoping to enjoy the last few weeks of Spring weather? Don't bet on it. Meteorologists at the NWS told NOLA.com the heatwave doesn't seem eager to let us cool down again soon.
The high temps will be even more annoying with the humidity projected to sit in the high 70% to low 80% range through the heatwave. It seems this heatwave will bring an early end to spring weather and bring summer early in Shreveport, carrying us through the last few weeks of Spring and into the summer.
It's important to remember that hot weather means locked cars become death traps for anyone stuck inside, after just 10 minutes in 80 degree weather the interior of a car can reach 99 degrees. It's a tragedy we hear about far too often, a parent or caregiver leaves a child forgotten in the car only for the worst to happen. Make sure you stay vigilant around children and pets in the car this summer.
