Shreveport’s Trent Taylor Makes Play of the NFL Preseason
Trent Taylor, the former Evangel great and Louisiana Tech legend, made the most incredible play of the NFL preseason.
I won't even attempt to hide my bias here, I am so excited for Trent Taylor. Granted, I do have a little bit of history with the Cincinnati Bengals receiver. While he is a few years younger than me, I was great friends with both Trent and his older brother Trey, who's also a legendary footballer in his own right.
I was beyond thrilled to watch Trent throughout his first few seasons in the league with the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately for our guy, he suffered a plethora of injuries during his run with San Francisco. However, I know Trent well enough to know that he simply does not quit, and I also believe that everything happens for a reason.
This offseason, Trent signed with the Bengals and joined a young team surrounded by fellow Louisiana football legends. On his side of the ball, we've got the GOAT Joe Burrow, as well as Burrow's favorite target at LSU, Ja'Marr Chase. On the other side of the ball, we've got another legendary Shreveporter. Brandon Wilson, who went to Calvary, has been turning heads with the Cincinnati Bengals for a few seasons now as one of the league's best returners.
To put it simply, I'm excited for Trent to join this team, and to me, it feels a lot like destiny.
Trent has been consistently mentioned as a top-performer on the team during the offseason. Any time you read a Bengals' practice report, you'll see reporters praising Trent's plays and effort. Every single one.
Naturally, when you have raw talent and non-stop determination like Trent has, it's only a matter of time before you grab the world's attention.
That's exactly what Trent did during the preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. During the third quarter, on a 4th down play from the 46-yard line, quarterback Kyle Shurmur attempted to pass a quick slant to Stanley Morgan. The ball bounced high and towards the outside of the field off of Morgan's hands. Right place, right time. The ball bounced directly to the ever-aware Trent Taylor, you grabbed it and ran 46-yards and was one inch away from scoring a legendary touchdown. While approaching the ten-yard line, Taylor collided with a Dolphins defender before virtually carrying him ten yards, nearly into the endzone.
This is easily the play of the NFL preseason, and we can't wait to see more from Trent Taylor this season.
