Louisiana Tech has announced that long-time Bulldogs Head Football Coach Skip Holtz will be leaving the program. Holtz will coach his final game against Rice this weekend.

The program made the announcement on social media.

The 57-year-old Holtz goes into his final game as Bulldogs Head Coach with a 64-49 record at Louisiana Tech, and a 152-120 overall head coaching record. Over his time at Tech, Holtz took the team to 7 consecutive bowl games (a streak that will end this year), and the team won the first 6 of those bowl games. In those bowl games, Tech beat programs like Miami (FL), Illinois, Navy, and SMU.

Holtz also brought three Conference USA Championships to the Bulldogs program. First in 2014, then 2016, and most recently in 2019.

Prior to his time in Ruston, Holtz was the Head Football Coach at South Florida, East Carolina, and Connecticut.

Prior to becoming a college head coach, Holtz held multiple assistant coaching positions. His career started in 1987 as a Graduate Assistant with Florida State. He then became the Wide Receivers Coach at Colorado State in 1989. He took the same position with Notre Dame in 1990. After two seasons as WR Coach, he became the Offensive Coordinator for Notre Dame. By 1994, Holtz got his first Head Coaching job with UConn. He then returned to the Offensive Coordinator position with South Carolina in 1999, before returning to the Head Coach position in 2005.

Skip Holtz is the son of College Football Hall of Fame Coach Lou Holtz. Skip worked on his father's staff while both at Notre Dame and South Carolina.
