Stealing Soda from McDonald’s Earns Man a Trip to Jail
Don’t try and steal a dollar’s worth of soda from McDonald’s.
Not only is it dishonest –not to mention all those empty, unhealthy calories– but it could cost you. A middle-aged Florida man was arrested and held on $6,500 bond after he asked employees for a courtesy cup for water and then filled it with soda.
Mark Abaire, 52, sat outside the restaurant enjoying the soft drink he acquired for free. He refused to pay for the beverage when asked, would not leave the premises and cursed at the restaurant manager.
Abaire, who is known as “Red” and “Clown” — sort of like Ronald McDonald himself — has several previous arrests. He is charged with petty theft, trespassing and disorderly intoxication as a result of this particular arrest, which took place Thursday. Since he has a prior record, the misdemeanor was upgraded to a felony and he is now staring down five years in jail.
The moral of the story? Don’t mess with the Golden Arches.
