Worth the Drive: Sunbird BBQ in Longview Lands on Texas Monthly’s Elite List

Many Shreveport residents fondly recall the mouth-watering BBQ that Sunbird Barbecue brought to local events, especially through regular collaborations with 7th Tap Brewery. As one of the Ark-La-Tex's only BBQ trucks, Shreveport was saddened when they chose their hometown of Longview, Texas, for their brick-and-mortar location. Since then, Shreveport BBQ lovers have happily made the hour-long drive for a taste of their delicious barbecue. Now, following their latest feature in Texas Monthly, Sunbird Barbecue is likely to draw even more visitors from far beyond Shreveport.

Texas Monthly gave Sunbird the nod in 2023 when they named Sunbird in their "Top 25 New BBQ Joints," Since then, all eyes have been on Sunbird, and these pitmasters have not let us down. Sunbird was named in the Top 50 BBQ Joints by Texas Monthly.

Sunbird BBQ's Dream Has Become Their Reality

Sunbird took to their social media to say "This prestigious list only comes out every four years, and being included is a massive honor for any small business — especially one like ours that started with a simple goal: to make the best barbecue we could, and to shine a light on East Texas and our hometown of Longview."

The stamp system is simple: visit all 50 BBQ joints before a new list comes out. Barbecue lovers are expected to flock to Longview, Texas, to get their Sunbird stamp.
