From social justice rallies, to people swimming in giant fish tanks, these were the stories that Shreveport peeps were commenting on, sharing, clicking, and making VIRAL online in 2020
This sounds like what's been happening in Caddo Parish. But there is one major difference. The Confederate Monument in front of the Caddo Courthouse is still there.
The committee has allocated $500,000 to pay for removing the statue, if needed.
That prompted Jackie Nichols, spokesperson for Shreveport Chapter #237 United Daughters of the
Confederacy to issue this statement:
Do not Fund moving the monument in your budget.
NEVER has Shreveport Chapter said that we could or WOULD pay for any moving of our
monument.
A committee of the Caddo Commission recommends allocating up to $500,000 to move the Confederate Monument from in front of the Caddo Parish Courthouse.
Caddo Parish Commission President Stormy Gage-Watts says the legal battle over the Confederate Monument in front of the Caddo Courthouse is nearly over, but she says there are still a couple of legal challenges to wrap up.
The legal community in Caddo Parish will likely take notice of the legal fight going on in South Louisiana. A man in East Feliciana Parish says he can not get a fair trial at a courthouse where a Confederate monument is displayed.
