Kyle Mooney’s Brigsby Bear is an odd, weird, lovable movie about a person learning for the first time how the real world works. Mooney plays a young lad who’s watched one television show, called Brigsby Bear, for his whole life — until one day when it suddenly ends. One of the unexpected delights of this past Sundance Film Festival was Brigsby Bear, whose bizarre humor from star Kyle Mooney (yes, SNL’s Kyle Mooney) charmed audiences and critics alike. It’s about a young lad raised in isolation, whose only connection to the rest of the world outside his family is a TV show about a stuffed bear who goes on adventures. One day, the show suddenly ends, and Mooney must go in search of Brigsby Bear’s conclusion.

SNL sailed from the 40th anniversary into Season 41 rather smoothly, though the waters roughened in recent weeks with the departures of Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky. Thankfully, it’s clear skies ahead for Season 42, as the rest of the beloved cast will be staying aboard. Sailing metaphors!

Sure, there are lots of kids and teens buying Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys, but a long, long time ago in a galaxy that is actually this one, Star Wars belonged to another group of nerds — and those nerds are not going to let today’s kids take ownership of their fandom so easily, especially when these kids don’t know that action figures should STAY. IN. THE. BOX.
