Layoffs

The decision to cut jobs comes after reaching a union deal with its workers.

The layoffs, blamed on the COVID-19 pandemic, will take effect July 1st and include almost 250 employees at Evangeline Downs in St. Landry Parish.

The plant is not officially closing at this time. It is simply ceasing operations. That means some of these jobs could come back.

These numbers were reported by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The few remaining employees will have their pay cut in half.

Unstable financial markets and concerns over COVID-19 have prompted the actions in which about 70 people will lose their jobs.

Waitr has announced it will be "refocusing its operations in Lafayette."
