Teacher’s Union Says No to Arming Teachers in Caddo and Bossier
A few days ago, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator called for school administrators to consider the radical idea of allowing some teachers and staff members to be armed. The proposal was not made lightly, and considers the need for extreme training and vetting. It is also not without opponents.
According to the Ark-La-Tex Homepage, Red River United teacher's union says this is a a move in the wrong direction. President Jackie Lansdale, says the union that represents educators in Caddo and Bossier disagrees with the plan to put more guns in schools. Lansdale believes that more focus should be placed on mental health, especially when it comes to identifying kids with issues early and get help before the situation turns tragic.
Sheriff Prator says that carrying a gun isn't for every teacher, but those with prior training and previous military or law enforcement experience are people we should look at.
