The Reason Why Shamrocks are an “Irish Thing”
I am sure you already know that 4 leaf clovers are lucky. Do you know why? It is because they are super rare to find in nature. But do you know why the shamrock is heavily celebrated in Ireland?
It is actually a really cool story.
When I was in college, I had an assignment to give a informational speech about a holiday. I chose Saint Patrick's day. This is when I found out that Saint Patrick wasn't even Irish.
He is actually British. According to Huffington Post, Patrick was abducted from his home by Irish raiders. He was forced into slavery where he tending to sheep which is why you usually see photos of him with a staff. Patrick escaped slavery and jumped on a ship to France. He would later return to Ireland and buy land after he became a bishop.
He then began teaching Christianity, and he used the shamrock to explain the holy trinity: the father, the son, and the holy spirit.
So next time you see a clover don't forget about Saint Patrick and why it is important.
