You don't wanna mess with Tom Petty, or at least one of his songs.

After learning Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann used his song "American Girl" at a rally in Iowa announcing her presidential campaign, Petty sent Bachmann's people a cease-and-desist forbidding her to use the song at future events. But he's not the first.

Jon Bon Jovi was very public in his disapproval of Sarah Palin's use of his "Who Says You Can't Go Home Again" during her 2008 vice-presidential campaign, and Jackson Browne filed a copyright infringement suit against John McCain and the RNC for using Browne's song "Running On Empty" in campaign ads.
