KTBS is reporting that the child who was struck and killed by a vehicle on North Market Street tonight has died.

Shreveport Police say an unattended 7-year-old girl ran out into traffic this evening, and was stuck by a truck. The accident happened just after 7pm near the intersection of North Lakewood Drive and North Market Street.

According to police, the child's guardian was not with her when she entered the road. They believe the little girl was left unattended at a nearby gas station, while the guardian crossed the street.

After being struck, the child was transported to Ochsner LSU Health, where she died from her injuries.

Based on early reports, there could be charges brought against the child's guardian.

Police indicate that the public should expect traffic delays in the area around the Lakewood Drive and North Market Drive intersection while their investigation takes place.
