In a world where you work to survive, unemployment is a daunting threat over everyone's head. New studies seem to show that Louisiana's unemployment rate continues to drop.

This week, Louisiana had 60 unemployment claims per capita, compared to states like North Dakota where it was 464 per capita. Louisiana sits among the states with the least unemployment claims in the last week.

Unemployment Claims Dropped This Week

Louisiana saw a drop of over 40% in unemployment claims this week, among only 3 states where the rate of claims dropped over 40%, Georgia and Florida are the other states to do so. Since last year Louisiana has seen an overall drop of 11.62% in its unemployment rate.

This could be a good indicator for the state, as Louisiana sits among states with the lowest average credit scores and the highest level of financial distress. This is also a good sign for the state's job market, earlier this year Louisiana was ranked as the 2nd worst state to find a job.

It should be considered that changes in the number of unemployment claims do not reflect the unemployment rate as a whole, claims are counted once, so this data is made up by counting the number of initial unemployment claims filed and does not reflect how many people are stepping out of unemployment.

Another hope for Louisiana's job market is Governor Landry's new tax reforms that will be coming up for a vote next year.
