Damon Lindelof Teases HBO ‘Watchmen’ in First Pre-Production Photo
LOST and Leftovers boss Damon Lindelof was a little cagey about confirming his involvement with an HBO Watchmen, but consider the bean juice officially spilled. A new photo teases an early read for the mysterious project, as the doomsday clock finally begins ticking.
We still don’t know exactly what form the potential series might take, as HBO recently stepped up to clarify Lindelof’s pitch wouldn’t adapt the Alan Moore comic outright. Nonetheless, Lindelof shared a photo of his empty writers room with a telling “In Gratitude” statue; that of the comic (and movie)’s original Nite Owl, Hollis Mason. Might that be a clue?
For those unfamiliar with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original 1986 work, Watchmen explored a world in which the emergence of costumed heroes (and one super-powered being) radically altered history, as the murder of a retired hero reunites them to unravel a doomsday plot. Zack Snyder’s 2009 film finished decades of attempts to adapt the material, and starred Malin Akerman, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
HBO will likely come forth with additional Watchmen details in the next few months, but might Lindelof be looking to the Minutemen first?
