Seattle, Washington tops the list of U.S. cities attracting millennials. Columbia, South Carolina is next on the list while Sacramento, California is #3.

Financial website Smart Asset says the study is based on Census Bureau data, tracking millennial movement for more than 200 cities. What plays into the decision to move to a community? The website claims

Where millennials decide to move has enormous impact on local markets, from the cost of a mortgage to whether or not you will be able to find a good avocado toast in your neighborhood.

And it backs up the website’s claim that the south is an overwhelmingly popular choice for millennials to move altogether.

SmartAsset compared the number of people between the ages of 20 and 34 who moved to 217 U.S. cities to the number who moved away from them, using 2016 Census Bureau migration data.

Some of the big cities you might expect to see on this list didn't make the city. You won't find New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco on the list.

The big winner is Virginia. 3 spots It looks like Virginia is not "just for lovers", but for millennials too. The state takes three spots in our top 10.

There are no cities in Louisiana or Arkansas on this list. Texas has 3 cities on the list: Arlington, Fort Worth and Houston.
