Construction on Shreveport's new Amazon Fulfillment Center is set to wrap up later this year, but already rumors are swirling about when hiring will begin for the reported 1,000 jobs at the facility.

And the latest scuttlebutt - that hiring has begun and not enough workers can be found - is proving to be so alarming to all involved that one Caddo Parish Commissioner has taken to social media to declare the rumors false.

Commissioner Steven Jackson, in a Monday Facebook post, reiterated that Amazon has yet to begin hiring and worries that the misinformation may hurt both the online retailer and those looking for work:

"AMAZON HAS NOT posted a single job opening at their Shreveport facility. I'm disturbed someone would make a misleading post that does more harm than good for our community.

"Since we created the Amazon TIF District, I check in with corporate representative Jessica Breaux on a monthly basis and can confirm that no such issue with hiring exist nor has any hiring started at the facility. In fact, due to a better than expected winter, the construction of the facility is right on schedule.

When the hiring begins there will be announcements and job fairs announced everywhere for the community to hear about. The original press release provided a tentative timeframe of Summer 2022 as the beginning process for hiring. Please do not share misinformation from non verified and non trusted sources."

And to support Jackson, Amazon released an email attempting to clarify the situation:

“We still plan to launch a new facility in Shreveport, LA, providing over 1,000 full time jobs, starting at $15/hour with comprehensive benefits from day one. The only thing that’s changed with our plans is the exact timing. We are a dynamic business and we have dozens of fulfillment centers, sortation centers and delivery stations that are evolving and under construction across the country. It’s common for us to adjust launch timetables based on capacity needs across the network. We’ll provide an update on our launch timing at a later date.”
