What’s The Appropriate Age To Pierce Your Child’s Ears? [Poll]

On the Morning Madhouse this morning we got into a heated argument about the right age to pierce your child's ears.  Carter's little girl is almost 2 years old, and he and his wife are considering piercing her ears.  I could not disagree more.  I personally think it should be a conscious decision on the part of the child when they are old enough to consider the pros and cons themselves (with some guidance, of course).  I do see the other side of the argument, and if you were trying to avoid the panic or trauma - that would be the way to do it.  I tend to err on the side of what will teach the best lesson.  If my son wanted to get his ears done, I would let him if he convinced me he was informed and ready.  They have to be these, though.
