Every time there's a threat of winter weather in Shreveport-Bossier, the first thoughts immediately go to "what's going to be open" and "will it be safe to travel". According to the latest update from the National Weather Service, Shreveport-Bossier is under a 'Winter Storm Warning', which according to the NWS, means "that conditions pose a threat to life or property, and that travel will become difficult to impossible."

So, does that mean schools will be closed? Will businesses and roadways shut down? Here's what we know so far.

Will Schools Be Closed in Shreveport-Bossier Due to Winter Weather?

As of right now, Public Schools in Caddo & Bossier Parishes will be open on Thursday. Both school systems issued a similar statement at 3 PM today (Wednesday January 8th, 2025):

After a briefing today with the National Weather Service and Bossier Parish emergency agencies, Bossier Schools will be open Thursday, January 9. However, the YEP program will be canceled and all extracurricular and after-school activities will be postponed until a later time.

We will continue to carefully monitor the forecast and provide an update at 4 p.m. Thursday regarding school operations on Friday.

Stay tuned for further information and remember, if you do not already have the Bossier Schools district app, this is a great time to download it so you will get updates from the district in real time.
However, Bossier Parish Community College has announced that they will in fact be closed during the winter storm. BPCC posted the following on their Facebook Page:
Bossier Parish Community College campuses in Bossier, Natchitoches, and Many will be closed Thursday, January 9th, Friday, January 10th, and Saturday, January 11th, in anticipation of winter weather conditions expected to impact the north Louisiana region. This precautionary closure is being made to prioritize the safety of BPCC’s faculty, staff, and students.
Virtual classes will continue as scheduled, and student services will remain accessible online. Students enrolled in face-to-face classes starting on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday should check Canvas for updates and instructions from their instructors.
Campuses are set to reopen, with all classes resuming on Monday, January 13th.

Louisiana State University in Shreveport has also announced that school will be closed on Thursday. Here's what they had to say:

After evaluating the winter weather conditions with the National Weather Service, LSUS will be closed on Thursday.
LSUS officials will evaluate Friday’s weather conditions and make a determination by Thursday afternoon.

At this moment, no statement has been issued by Centenary College.  However, as mentioned numerous times, this is a fluid situation. So, just because your school is listed as open now, doesn't mean that won't change as more information becomes available.
