Shreveport City Councilwoman LeVette Fuller won the District B council seat 4 years ago, in 2018, defeating Wendy Vance.  Fuller has been declared a 'swing vote' through the course of her term on various issues, most recently voting with John Nickelson and Grayson Boucher on the city's liquor ordinance proposal.

Councilwoman Fuller tearfully told KEEL News she will not seek re-election in the upcoming city council election this fall. When asked if this is the end of her political career, Fuller stated:

I wasn't trying to have a political career, I was trying to do what I came here to do... what is best for the city

Fuller has been a polarizing figure on the council pretty much her entire term. Early in her term, she voted to repeal an ordinance banning sagging pants.  She was even the subject of a recall effort in 2020 because she was the swing vote, voting with the three republican council memebers, preventing a memorandum of understanding between the City of Shreveport and a minority owned corporation, Gateway Louisiana, concerning the Cross Point development project.  Once again, voting her conviction, not 'towing the party line.'

It saddens this author that this is where we are politically in my hometown.  Councilwoman Fuller has now joined District C councilman John Nickelson by announcing they are not seeking re-election, basically for no other reason other than... they are tired of fighting against the machine... my words... not theirs.
