It's been over 15 years since Bad Boys II hit theaters, and after tons of anticipation and false starts, the third installment has officially received the green light to hit theaters. This past Wednesday (May 9), Sony Pictures announced that Bad Boys III with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will be releasing to theaters on Jan. 17, 2020 after a lengthy wait from fans.

The film has been teased by both Smith and Lawrence over the years as fans hoped that they would soon see a big-screen reunion between police detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey. The project previously received many delays and false starts, and was also reportedly pulled from Sony's release calendar last year in August. Lawrence also shared at the time that he didn't believe the movie would come together based on how things were turning out.

It does seem like the perfect time for the project to release, as Will Smith wrapped up his press run surrounding his Bright Netflix movie, and is now an Instagram star. Lawrence has made a swift comeback with his comedy, and even reunited with some of his Martin co-stars last year.

Back in 2014, Martin announced that Bad Boys III was in the works and that a script was being prepared, but he wasn't able to confirm whether or not Will would be joining the cast alongside him. Fortunately, it looks like fans wishes are coming true.

We'll keep you updated on details surrounding Bad Boys III as they become available.
