X-Men’s Next Move: Why Fans Think Louisiana Is the New Mutant HQ
The X-Men have been around for a long time, and with recent events shaking things up, fans are buzzing with excitement about their adventures in New Orleans. In the last few issues of Gail Simone and David Marquez's run of The Uncanny X-Men, Louisiana has been the main setting, which has led fans to speculate that the mutants might be getting a new base in a new location: The Bayou State.
Why the X-Men and Louisiana are
Since The Uncanny X-Men was revived for a new volume in 2024, the influence of Louisiana has been heavy. The most recent issue ignited speculation from fans after readers couldn't help but feel the setting would stick around for longer than a single story arc.
After 19 issues, it's almost all but confirmed that the X-Men team-up of Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler is settling down in the New Orleans area. Gambit, being a Louisiana native and full blooded Cajun, moved the X-Men to the state to avoid mutant persecution. Rogue has felt right at home in Louisiana, right next door to her home state of Mississippi.
Why a Louisiana HQ Makes Perfect Sense
While the story continues to follow the X-Men in Louisiana, the need for a new home base grows. In the past, the X-Men have shared many different headquarters, but this ragtag team of X-Men on the run in a world where mutants are strictly regulated might need a good place to lay low.
New Orleans has become a hub of magic in the Marvel Comics universe, and the current X-Men leader, Gambit, has found himself wrapped up in a myriad of magical encounters in recent years. In the coming issues of Simone and Marquez's X-Men, could we see the new X-Men create a headquarters in the Bayou State?
