FOX ‘X-Men’ Drama Starts Production With First Bryan Singer Photo
The exact title of FOX’s Bryan Singer-directed X-Men drama hasn’t officially been Gifted to us, but production is nonetheless underway. Producers have shared a new still from the mysterious mutant drama, featuring at least two familiar faces.
Executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner shared a photo of Singer directing Whedon-verse favorite Amy Acker as Kate Stewart, in the process referencing the pilot as The Gifted, rather than the singular Gifted title from previous tweets. Also worth noting, reports have since debunked that Originals and Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan will play a role, instead suggesting he filled in for the reading.
In addition to True Blood alum Stephen Moyer, Acker and Gotham alum Natalie Alyn Lind, also cast is Bunheads alum Emma Dumont as Lorna Dane/Polaris, a metal-manipulating mutant typically portrayed as one of Magneto’s lesser-known children. Other recent additions include Coby Bell, Sean Teale as Eclipse, Jamie Chung as Marvel mutant Blink (who Singer had previously showcased in Days of Future Past) and Switched at Birth star Blair Redford as a Native American mutant leader.
FOX had previously set franchise helmer Singer to direct a pilot for the new drama from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, said to follow “two human parents who discover their children as mutants, forcing them to run from a hostile government, and join with an underground network of mutants to survive.” The series was also said to take place in the universe of the films, potentially including Sentinels as well.
We don’t yet know for sure when FOX will come forth with official details, but stay tuned in the meantime.
