Twice yearly, eventers from all over the country converge in beautiful Benton, LA at Holly Hill Equestrian Center owned by Bobby and Tracy Hewlett for the Holly Hill Horse Trials.

Well this weekend is that weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 23rd and 24th, and you should see a ton of horse trailers on the road this week. (Please be careful!) Spectators can expect to see upwards of 200 horse and rider pairings competing in dressage, show jumping and cross country. Eventing (show or stadium jumping, cross country and dressage) is the same thing you'll see on TV during this Summer during the Olympic games in Rio.

So, if you’ve got a horse crazy person in your house, make plans to visit Benton this week. The event is free and open to the public with vendors, food trucks and more. Plus, I'll be your announcer and my new horse, Kappa Sweetheart, will be making her first appearance running 'Starter' with my friend Caryle Abrams riding.

Want to know more about eventing? Here's a video I shot with the help of my friends at KMSS Fox 33 a few years ago for Horse Country TV.

Here's a picture Tracy posted recently of the cross country course. It's going to be an exceptionally beautiful weekend for the trials!
