It's the end of an era.

Sonia Manzano, who has played Maria on the long-running children's series Sesame Street for more than four decades, is retiring after this season.

"After 45 years on Sesame Street@SoniaMManzano will no longer appear on the next season," read a tweet from the American Libraries Association, after her appearance at their annual conference earlier this week.

Manzano joined the series in 1971 and has since won 15 Emmies as both an actress and a writer for the show. She also appears on Law & Order SVU in the recurring role of Judge Gloria Pepitone.
