Over the last few years, we've been seeing more and more graduates in both Louisiana and Texas adding QR codes to their graduation announcements... is that okay or not?

This trend hit my radar back in 2022 and I won't lie, it hit me wrong. After all, including a QR code in your graduation announcement, is kind of presumptuous... it says that not only are you expecting a gift, you're expecting cash. And yes, most of us do give grads money to help pave their future way, but is it expected? Is this a convenience for the gift giver or an overreach?

When I asked for input about this two years ago, the results were pretty evenly mixed. However, I got an email from Shannon Wendel earlier this week and I think Shannon is 100% correct in that, two years later, QR codes are more acceptable. Why? Because mailing money, regardless of it being cash or a check, is just leaving yourself open to theft. Here's what Shannon had to say on the subject:

I originally hated the idea of including a cash app or QR code with my son‘s graduation announcement, but with all of the mail theft going on in our area, I am reconsidering.   Thieves know it’s graduation season so they’re going to be on the lookout for cash and cards!

She's not wrong, but we want to know what YOU think. Are QR codes in your graduation announcement, either printed or online, okay or rude? Shoot me a message with your thoughts using our free app or email me at erin.bristol@townsquaremedia.com.
