New Orleans Pelicans’ Mascot Reveals New Look After Surgery [PHOTOS]

New Orleans Pelicans’ mascot, Pierre, is out of surgery and looking fly. He’s now struttin’ his stuff with a new, kid-friendly look.

The mascot underwent reconstructive surgery after breaking his beak. The injury occurred after Pierre was fouled by Grizz of the Memphis Grizzlies on a drive to the basket during a pickup game last Saturday. The pelican went head first into the stanchion of the basket. Whether it was an accident or a Flagrant 1 is still up for debate.

Team physician Dr. Matthew McQueen conducted the surgery addressing the pelican’s skull as well. His goal: to keep as many features as possible of the beloved water fowl the same preventing any future insecurities. Pierre appeared to be all smiles, even giving a thumbs up, after leaving the operating room.

Pierre has received ongoing criticism for his look ever since his unveiling in October. Haters said that he was too scary, especially for kids. Despite that emotional ridicule, a drastic procedure like Rhinoplasty can have damaging affects on one’s self esteem. However, Pierre was met with some familiar faces, including Grizz, who applauded his new look.

Pierre the Pelican is fully recovered and ready to “Take Flight” in this weekend’s NBA All-Star festivities in New Orleans.

Watch Pierre’s full recovery.
