Universal announced Wednesday that "Ted 2", the sequel to Seth MacFarlane's 2012 hit comedy, will hit theaters June 26, 2015.

The raunchy comedy has gone on to gross $550 million worldwide, making "Ted" Universal's biggest hit of 2012.

MacFarlane will return to write, direct and star as the voice of the title character, and Mark Wahlberg will return as his human sidekick.

MacFarlane is currently at work on the comedy Western "A Million Ways to Die in the West", in which he will star alongside Charlize Theron and Amanda Seyfried. It's set for release in May.

"Ted 2" will face some heavy competition; other films set for release that summer will include "Jurassic World", Pixar's "Inside Out", a sequel to "Independence Day" and "Minions", a "Despicable Me" spin-off..
