Rihanna will check into the A&E’s Bates Motel’s upcoming 5th and final season. On Tuesday (Jan. 31), the network released a chilling preview of what to expect from the series.

RiRi will play Marion Crane, the character first made famous by Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 thriller Psycho, which the television series is based on. In the movie, Crane - who was on the lam after she had stolen her boss’s money for her divorced boyfriend - checks into the Bates Motel and is horrifically stabbed to death while she was taking a shower. The bloody scene has since been immortalized into horror film history.

According to the producers of Bates Motel, Crane’s story line will be fleshed out told differently than in the original film.

“We’re taking threads of that story and definitely using them so it’s recognizable, it’s just where we go with it is very different,” executive producer Kerry Ehrin tells EW.com. “It’s tough to be in a situation where you’re in love with a guy, and for whatever reason, he keeps stalling. You still have all this hot sex with him, and he’s saying he loves you, but he’s stalling. The internal story of that, for a woman, is a really interesting one. We never really got to see that."

"In Psycho, you just see the outside of that more. It was trying to do a story about a contemporary woman with some edge, with some expectations, who isn’t perfect, who isn’t always perfectly sweet, who is in that situation, but we’re rooting for her to get what she wants," he continues.

Ehrin reveals that that Rihanna's character will develop a connection with Motel owner Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) who is also in a fragile state as well after losing his mother. “It’s this collision of Bates Motel storytelling and then Marion Crane showing up into that," he explains. "He’s in a very fragile and lonely place, and Marion Crane is a charismatic woman, she’s super present when she’s with him and she’s very attractive — all those things are exactly what he needs right at this moment.”

Note to Rihanna: Whatever you do, don't take a shower!

A&E's Bates Motel will return on Feb. 20 at 10PM ET. Watch the preview above.
