NBC News reports that of the 16,000 people studied, results show that after 5 years most of the effects fade away but some last the rest of your life! The study which followed people as far back as 1971 showed that more that 7,000 genes are effected or a third of what makes up human DNA.

According to the CDC Smoking leads the way for preventable illness killing almost 500,000 Americans per year, globally killing almost 6 Million! Luckily smoking rates have dropped in the past several years especially for High School and College Students.
